In occasion of the centenary of Italo Calvino’s birth, we are delighted to introduce a remarkable event to celebrate the Week of the Italian Language in the World.
On November 7, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM, at the University of Nairobi, within the prestigious surroundings of the University Tower MLT 405, will take place a public lecture titled “The Baron in the Trees: Italo Calvino alongside Kenyan authors”.
During this event, Dr. Francesca Rubini will provide a comprehensive overview of Italo Calvino’s literature, with particular emphasis on the relationship between his works and sustainability. Additionally, Dr. Alex Nelungo Wanjala will share reflections on Italo Calvino in the context of Kenyan literary culture.
Furthermore, the Free Travelling Theatre group will deliver engaging performances and readings that capture the essence of Calvino’s literature.
The event will conclude with a book donation ceremony, where copies of “The Baron in the Trees” in English language will be donated by the Italian Cultural Institute at the University of Nairobi, promoting the dissemination and accessibility of Italian culture.
Following this, an informal lunch will be provided, offering an opportunity for socializing and continuing discussions.
