“Becoming Humans” mural by Street Art Ball Project

FORM 5 sensi (20)

On the occasion of the bicentenary of Carlo Collodi’s birth, the Italian Cultural Institute of Nairobi is pleased to promote the creation of a horizontal mural inspired by the book The Adventures of Pinocchio.

The artistic project, curated by the StreetArtBall Project collective, will be created by Paolo Baraldi, Tommaso Cambiaghi and Stefano Panizzo on the basketball court of the school founded by the Italian organization “Still I Rise”, in the Mathare neighbourhood of Nairobi.

In designing the artwork, the artists drew inspiration from the deeper meaning of Collodi’s story and from Pinocchio’s desire to become human. BECOMING HUMANS, in the plural, becomes an invitation to the students of the school to be inspired by Pinocchio’s journey and by his aspiration to grow into caring and empathetic human beings, even before becoming adults.

BECOMING HUMANS therefore goes beyond the story itself: it is a symbolic and universal message.
