Synopsis:

The film is set in Italy in 1984, 1991, 1998 and 2007 and jumps back and forth in time.

Throughout these years the lives of Mattia and Alice run parallel without being able to conjoin.   Both with a difficult childhood damaged by a terrible event that marks the fragile existence of the protagonists until their maturity.

Among friends, with family and at work Mattia and Alice carry both within and on the outside the marks of their past.  The awareness of being different from the others only strengthens the barriers that divide them from the world taking them, even if fully conscious, to an inevitable isolation.

The film is taken from Paolo Giordano’s book of the same title which was awarded the Strega prize in 2008.
