The second season of “Opera Streaming”, promoted by the Region and the traditional theaters of Emilia-Romagna, is starting. Councilor Mauro Felicori: “Even so, the production quality of our best centers and our culture go beyond regional borders”
From 25th September on the bill 9 opera productions live streaming from Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna and Rimini and visible on YouTube from an international audience. Over 500 thousand spectators in the first season
Bologna. Ernani, La traviata, Madame Butterfly, The Barber of Seville … Opera for everyone is back. The second season of “Opera Streaming”, the first regional portal in Italy that broadcasts opera in streaming, has started. There are 9 shows created by a team of traditional theaters, which will be clearly visible starting from 25th September, on the project’s YouTube channel.
The initiative was presented this morning in Modena in a press videoconference, with the Regional Councilor for Culture, Mauro Felicori, the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Rimini Giampiero Piscaglia and the directors and representatives of the theaters involved, connected via web: Paolo Cantù of the Reggio Emilia Theater Foundation, Marcello Corvino of the Ferrara Municipal Theater Foundation, Cristina Ferrari of the Piacenza Theater Foundation, Anna Maria Meo of the Regio Theater of Parma, Tommaso Minerva of Edunova, Angelo Nicastro of the Alighieri Theater of Ravenna, Aldo Sisillo of the Municipal Theater Foundation of Modena and Maurizio Tarantino of the Municipal Theater of Bologna.
Aimed at an international audience (the portale is also in English), it is the first service in the world to offer opera productions in the context of a territory and its tradition.
Opera Streaming, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region with the coordination of the Teatro Comunale di Modena Foundation, proposes a seasonal program of live video broadcasts, created in the main opera production bodies of Emilia-Romagna: the Bolognese Lyric Symphony Foundation, the Theater of Tradition of Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Ferrara and Ravenna, the Amintore Galli Theater of Rimini. The technical aspects are edited by Edunova-University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The purpose of the three-year project (2019-2021) is to identify and promote, through a global communication tool, the Emilia-Romagna Region as a territory of lyrical tradition and opera production of absolute international prestige, as well as providing a service aimed at disadvantaged audiences in the use of theater shows.
“It is also through projects like this, visible all over the world – commented Councilor Felicori – that the culture of the Emilia-Romagna Region, with its production bodies, the splendid traditional theaters, the works and workers of great artistic quality, can be known and appreciated beyond the number of seats in the theaters. The goal is to cross regional borders and convey the message of a culturally very lively and productive region, able to compete with the works of European and international theaters. Furthermore, in this difficult moment created by the pandemic which reduced attendance at theaters for safety reasons, the possibility of being able to enjoy the shows from anywhere appears even more necessary and significant”.
Opera Streaming’s shows have gathered, after the first year of life, an audience of over half a million spectators and the enthusiasm of an international community that interacts live from countless countries such as Zimbabwe, United States, Taiwan, Brazil, Russia, Korea as well as from all European nations.
