Participating in competitions is often a professional starting point for many composers. Dante 700 Composition competition offers the participants a complete experience: from the performance of the finalists’ scores to the publication of the winning compositions and the distribution of the audio-video recordings among the Italian Cultural Centres around the world.
CIDIM, supports the above Competition promoted jointly by the Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato and the Filharmonie – Orchestra Filarmonica di Firenze.
The word “symphony” made its entrance into the Italian language thanks to Dante’s Comedy. It appears in the third Canticle, with the verse “the sweet symphony of Paradise”. This word embarked on a glorious journey in the history of music, up to today. The two organizing institutions together with CIDIM consider this competition an act of gratitude to Dante on the seventh centenary of his passing.
Directing musicians to draw inspiration from the Comedy with a symphonic composition seemed the most appropriate idea on the part of celebrating «the highest of poets».
This competition is an invitation to dialogue with Dante and to listen to the sound of the Comedy. A spur to raise the sails of ingenuity “to better sail the waters” and to find other “symphonies”.
CIDIM, supports the above initiative through the realization of the video of the concert by the winners which will take place next October 1st.
