As part of the #Activate campaign for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, jointly organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Nairobi, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Nairobi, and under the guidance of the Embassy of Italy in Kenya, Dancing Words brings together dance and literature to celebrate women’s strength and resilience.
The Taa Arts Organization, a community-based group committed to empowering young people through training in the performing arts, will present a one-hour dance performance interwoven with readings of Italian and Kenyan literary texts and poems curated by the Italian Cultural Institute.
The Italian readings will feature excerpts from Sibilla Aleramo’s Una donna (A Woman), a milestone in Italian feminist literature that powerfully portrays the struggle for self-determination and freedom.
An evocative performance that bridges cultures and art forms to celebrate women’s voices and reflect on equality and human dignity through the universal language of art.
