Music can be traced in all the cultures, in the most disparate places and periods of the Earth. Sources attest to its existence at least from 55,000 years ago, with the beginning of the Upper Paleolithic, and some scholars hypothesize its birth in Africa, when the first known human communities began to disperse on the globe. And, as Friedrich Nietzsche says “Without music, life would be a mistake”.
The Music Festival, begun in France in 1982, is a popular event held on June 21st every year to celebrate the summer solstice.
The music festival in Italy is coordinated by the AIPFM, the Italian Association for the promotion of the Music Festival in agreement with the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism.
The MiBACT and the Central Institute for Audio and Audiovisual Assets, in collaboration with the SIAE and with the major providers of digital music services, have recently launched the Portal of the Italian Song – www.canzoneitaliana.it – a platform for listening on -line of over a century of Italian songs from 1900 to 2000. The Portal offers free streaming over 200,000 songs and retracing the history of the Italian song also documents the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the Italian regions with material and records taken from the Ethnic Archive Linguistic-Musical (AELM) of the Central Institute for sound and audiovisual gadgets.
Through the transformations of the song, the portal tells the story of the country and promotes an important part of the Italian cultural heritage
