BE CLEVER
BE CLEVER is the brain child of Marzia Chierichetti who moved to Kenya from Italy fourteen years ago.
The company is situated amongst the palm trees and sand dunes of Che Shale beach on the edge of the Indian Ocean.
The workshop complex which was built with zero environmental impact employs 30 people trained to produce precious pieces from totally natural and recycled materials.
The complex has no industrial machinery or equipment as everything produced is handmade.
BE CLEVER is reaching out and gaining a clientele that demands an ethical approach to creativity and design and this environmentally-aware approach is foremost in our design technique.

Marzia Chierichetti was born in Milan, Italy and was educated in art and design. She graduated in Milan from the Istituto Beato Angelico and the I.S.A.D.
Marzia has worked on freelance basis with photographers, architects and advertising companies and has worked with Rizzoli and Mondadori.
She has lived in Kenya since 1999 and for eight years managed and designed the eco resort of Che Shale. During this time she founded her company BE CLEVER and opened her first shop in Malindi at Karen Blixen Square which sells her collections of handbags, jewellery and home accessories. In 2006 and 2007 Marzia produced her first interior design projects for private clients and Italian architects. The projects can be seen in the Kenyan towns of Malindi and Watamu, and in Italy in Milan and Rome.
Today Marzia lives on the beach at Che Shale but also spends time in Europe.
At Che Shale Marzia can dream – which leads to thoughts – which leads to creation and production.
She puts her feet in the sea and looks at the horizon and sees her next creation.
