Transforming the lives of people through intercultural exchange: AFS in Africa and around the World
In 2014 AFS celebrates its centenary and the cultural exchange organization’s evolution through radically different historical eras which began at the outbreak of World War 1.
Today AFS pursues its mission by providing quality intercultural learning opportunities for a growing number of young people, families, other stakeholders and wider audiences, thus developing an inclusive community of global citizens determined to build bridges between cultures.
AFS endeavours to link intercultural learning opportunities to the defining global issues facing humanity. Studies have shown that AFS exchange programs can have a deep and far-reaching impact on the lives of participants. AFS has drawn on knowledge and expertise gathered during its long history to help more than 400,000 students and young adults from around the world embark on journeys of personal growth through intercultural learning experiences. Participants develop new skills and gain a broader perspective on the world while building meaningful and lasting connections with the people they meet along the way.
This year, the worldwide network of AFS Volunteers will work with almost 13,000 students in more than 50 countries — each looking for an exciting and educational international experience.
Dr. Morlini will talk about why intercultural learning matters in today’s world.
